Rocky Raccoon

So waaay last May - which seems more like a year ago - Matthew came home around midnight from a long day at work. Snuggled into his work hat was a tiny little raccoon cub, sound asleep.

He works for a pest control company, and their job that day, among others, was to eradicate a family of pesky raccoons from under a house. Well, the mother wasn't there - neither had she been caught in any of the cages they had left out previously. Matthew knew this little baby would not survive without it's mother, and he couldn't stand that thought. So he brought her home :/
She was seriously the sweetest little thing! She made such cute little noises and we kept her warm with a heating pad, and we even fed her from a tiny bottle.
I woke up Whitney - our adorable friend who was living with us at the time - and she was a really great mama to this little girl! I'm not exactly sure I could have done any of this without Whitney!
Yup, even Davy and his girlfriend Taylor took turns holding her (look at her adorable tail!).
But we knew we couldn't keep her, as darling as she was. In just the few days we had her, she grew and matured by leaps and bounds! She was learning to walk, she stayed awake much more (at night!), and she was getting fast, rambunctious, and LOUD! Those sweet little purring noises started to sound like a wild animal park within 2 days, and I'm serious!

RACCOONS DO NOT MAKE GOOD PETS!!! It's really important for the general public to know this! I know there are a small amount of exceptions, but for the most part, raccoons are not only destructive and can get into everything, they CAN be extremely unpredictable and violent. And they don't do well by themselves - they need other raccoons to survive and thrive. So it took several days but I finally found a raccoon rescue that would take her, raise her, and set her free. Whewwwww :)
Luna LOVED her! She is saying goodbye before we left to take baby raccoon to the rescue :)
Last pic of our little visitor. SO CUTE! Goodbye little girl... have an awesome life! :)
