hanging out

Is this the most uber cool rainbow of records or WHAT! YES, IT IS!
We've just been hanging out over here at the Walkerville household,
and last night we decided to cruise down to Amoeba Records in Hollywood.
It was a B-LAST!!! That place is huge, amazing, and fascinating!
It has everything you could think of - you could get lost in there for days!
To give you a vague idea of how incredibly massive it is,
this pic is of the main room - which has 3 more areas attached to it
AND an upstairs! I took this pic from the landing on the stairs.
We were all there to look for vinyl albums, and we all scored!
We found records from Boz Skaggs to the Tallest Man on Earth!
Okay, I admit it: I want a Beatles lamp. In kind of a bad way.
The guys wearing their In-N-Out shirts that Daniel got for them :)
We didn't open our Christmas stockings until Monday evening!
I guess that's one genius way to s-t-r-e-t-c-h Christmas out a little longer!
I'm glad we got the Mouse in a few pics before he left for a friend's house
with his motorcycle in tow... He's feeling better and was driving us all nutsy.
As usual, I just pray he comes home in one piece :/
Ah, my Luna girl :) She loves to watch outside more than anything!
We were out working in the front yard and Luna was supervising.
We were boxing back up all the inside Christmas decorations,
except for my jolly snowmen in the entry way...
We left the lights up outside too, and my porch still looks Christmassy -
I just wasn't quite ready to let go of everything yet!
* another subliminal message - this time with 2 of the chip clips Riley gave me for my birthday!
Aren't they so adorable? I love that girl :)

shoes & news

As Steve Martin says at one point in the movie "Roxanne"........
"I REEELLY LIKE YOUR... SHOOOOOES..."
Well I got some awesome new shoes the other day and I heart them!
Are they cool-a-rama or what!
So speaking of FEET, I have a really adorable site to share with you -
I discovered them when they made a comment on one of my toe photos!
They're called -------------> toemail <------------- (get it? GET IT???)
And their mission is "making the world a better place one foot at a time" :)
And... guess who has her super cute feet featured this week???
* tee hee *
Check out toemail, peeps - they're great!

another rendezvous

The week before Christmas, Davy's band, A Basement Rendezvous,
played another awesome performance at Rock Candy Music.
Aside from Davy breaking a guitar string on their first song... (bummer)
Davy's vocals were in fine form and Henry, John & Jimmy were great.
It was a super fun and energetic event!
The Mouse and his hoodlum friends acting extremely cool
(you're not supposed to see him. he's not really there. he has mono)
Ski and Darren, home from college, with their adorable girlfriends
A few key members of the crowd.
And a chance to get back at Daniel for always making a gorilla face.
~
I was actually able to record most of their performance, so click away!
You can also find A Basement Rendezvous on Facebook
"Plainview"
"Plainview" continued
"His Name Stands for Many"
"Bits of Queer"
"My Completion"
"Time To Erase"
"Mary"
"Crigog Ross" (acoustic version)
*all songs written by Davy Walker & Jimmy Melnarik
Thanks For Listening!

on Christmas day in the morning

Happy happy joy joy! Did you all have a wonderful Christmas?
We had a really lovely time... aside from my pumpkin bread still not being made :/
but don't give up - it could still happen... it WILL happen!
I love this photo :) It was about 5:00a.m. Christmas morning!
Yes, I was still up. Because I'm a lunatic.
I love this angle too... and I caught my little Angel snoozing :)
This was the year half our tree lights decided to stop working,
so we had 2 different kinds of white lights strategically strung on there...
and in the end the entire tree top formed a coup d'etat and went out.
 So Merry Christmas from us!
(we got our crazy face pic over with first)
John, the Mouse, me, Davy and Daniel
Okay - this one is a little better I suppose...
but the above photo is probably more accurate of our usual selves
(I mean the boys - definitely not me)
It was so *AWESOME* to be all together - I love it so much ❤
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night :)

little signs

Little signs of Christmas here and there throughout my house...
We kept our tree pretty minimal this year... but I still love it.
Christmas pillows and my snowflake quilt - one of my favorites!
Family room (kinda fuzzy...) I still need to bring out my Nativity sets.
My freaky vintage Santa - one of my prized possessions, found last year.
Our family had a large Santa exactly like this - one of my fondest memories.
I made the 3 stockings in the middle -
this cross stitch one took forever! I made it 24 years ago... wow.
Merry Christmas (and everything else) from the Walker Family!

word

It's "List It Tuesday" once again.
Even though Amy is taking the week off, I still made a list.
I needed something to do while my migraine was leaking out my ears.
If you're not familiar with the term 'word association',
please refer to the movie "What About Bob?", heh :)
~
Have a great Tuesday - and stay tuned for more recipes, photos,
and even some video of Davy's band's recent performance!
Eyeliner, broken strings and all :D

Has your anticipation kept you from sleeping all weekend?
Well, I've made an executive decision to give ALL my commenters a CD!
There were just 8 of you that commented - awesome comments I might add.
I loved hearing about your favorite Christmas songs and your shared stories.
How could I choose 5 winners and leave just 3 of you with no CD?
That seemed like cruel and unusual punishment somehow.
So! Congratulations to:

Why I keep doin' da Jamaica ting - I don't even know!
Stop it Megan, stop it! You not on de bobsled team!
~
Alrighty then. Seriously, how SUPERFLY are these chairs!
I love how it's an old style chair with crazy retro fabric -
I so enjoy having some fun and turning design on it's ear!
I can't wait to see them next to our tan leather couch...
but that will have to wait until after the holidays.
The person I bought the fabric from on eBay is who reupholstered them -
Thank you Kelly - you were great to work with and they are simply
too cool for school :)
In other recent news, here is one of my last roses before I cut them back.
This one's especially for Cindy, because we both love pink :)
How funny that I love pink so much but rarely use it to decorate with...
 I love this photo!
Here is the Mouse setting off a Roman candle in our street.
No, he's not supposed to have a Roman candle in his possession.
No, he's not supposed to be holding it to set it off either.
But he did... and he was... so I took a photo. Cuz that's what I do.
In other Mouse news: finals are OVER! But he tested positive for mono :/
*subliminal message*
Someone likes posing in the background... :)
~
Have a terrific Friday night everyone!

holiday birthday poem

Hey Mom :)
So, here's your birthday poem -
I know you love the holidays and so I thought I'd go with a Christmas theme ~

November Candles

Christmas months both still and bustle
Excitement taunts, pervades, and stays
Leaves still falling; crunched or rustled
An autumn peace, so slow, gives way

Her colors celebrate an ending
Cyclic tones of death soon sleep
Waiting to awaken; rending
The cold repose of dreams so deep

A candle lit in late November
Flickers as a warm embrace
Growing, glowing as she remembers
A man who was a boy and babe

December's morning finds the virgin
Keeping treasures in her heart
A child afraid, yet purely willing
A faith divine in strong regard

A humble man with her is found
As angels soothed; gave hallowed mirth
A strength and blessing; hearts were bound
A pair, so pure, prepared for birth

December's noon finds candles many
But pleasing smiles can soon forget
The traveling couple who nears the city
Fulfilling hopes with promised steps

Christmas months bring back a family
To a place like homes we know
In evening's touch they rested weary
A subtle joy in December's glow

Night befalls our friends and children
Eve becomes a night of dreams
Dancing wishes of gifts now given
As a virgin toils, hopes, and weeps

Midnight waits in our December
Candles light the night with love
Stars remind as they remember
The King descended from above

A mother smiles as morning glistens
Surrounded by an untold wealth
Gifts we give as our hearts listen
To the Man who would soon give himself

I love you Mom; Happy Birthday!

❤ I love you too Daniel! ❤
Thank you so much for my beautiful poem!

eclectic list & give-away

I love that word, eclectic! FYI. Not only is it fun to say, it's just so... me.
Today is not only List Tuesday, but Aimee's 40th birthday!
Aimee from Artsyville who started List Tuesday in the first place.
Happy, Happy Birthday Aimee - I love the world with you in it :)
~
My list today is a project I did... a CD of Christmas music - eclectic of course!
I have hundreds of holiday songs in my iTunes, and enjoy collecting new ones too.
I love making different mixes every year, and eclectic mixes are always my favorite.
New, old, funny, serene, jolly, meaningful, classic, unique... you name it.
These are my most favorite songs this holiday season, 2010.
This is one FUN mix!
Some of the songs I have dearly loved since I was little
- Perry's Como's "Home For The Holidays" is one of them -
some of them have been favorites of mine for years,
and some of these songs are as new as this year.
~
But wait! There's more! I'm going to do a GIVE-AWAY!
Leave a comment here telling me what YOUR favorite Christmas song is, and WHY!
It doesn't have to be one of mine - I want to know what you love and the story behind it.
This Sunday at midnight, I'll draw 5 names, and send the winners a copy of my CD.
FUN!!! Happy commenting :D

love ❤

Happy Monday friends! I hope you had a great weekend :)
As we start off this new week with all the hustle and bustle
that inevitably accompanies the holiday season,
I would love for all of us to slow down just long enough
to watch these videos about this beautiful, remarkable soul.

Narayanan Krishnan

These videos have nothing to do with the season,
but everything to do with the whole reason behind it.
❤ LOVE ❤

snowmen

Is this just the sweetest little face or what! This guy is my favorite snowman.
I just love snowmen - they're so happy :)
Every year I put my snowmen together in my entryway like a little village.
I don't have a lot of snowmen, but I collect them here and there -
I especially like the new versions of vintage snowmen.
Like this little guy with his broom and the spring holding his hat up.
Davy puts snowflakes falling from the ceiling for me :)
So everyone who comes in is greeted by my happy snowmen
in their little village, and snowflakes sparkling from up above.
I hope all of you are enjoying the holidays so far.
Mine have been somewhat crazy & some days it really bugs me!
But I'm trying my best to steal little moments throughout the day,
because I refuse to let it all pass me by without enjoying it.
I wait all year for this month, just like most kids :)
So take a deep breath with me & make time for the important things!
*thanks to my dear friend Shauna for my special candle
