It's impossible for me to fathom, but 24 years ago today I gave birth to our first son Daniel. I was 24 myself, and John was 28. We didn't have a clue what we were getting into. The nurse had to show me how to diaper a baby before we brought him home because I didn't even know how to do that :/ Poor little innocent Daniel, fresh from heaven... mixed up with two new parents who are going, "how do we get it to stop crying?". Lord have mercy.
But that sweet baby was the most beautiful baby on earth, and changed our lives forever. We are better people because of his birth, and continue to be better people because of the person he has become. I remember when he was younger and would lament about "the good old days" before his 2 younger brothers were born and ruined his life. How he felt so much pressure being the oldest and having to set an example. I would always tell him, "Daniel, you have to trust God. He knew exactly what he was doing when he sent you to us first. He knew what kind of older brother you would be. He knew what kind of example you would be. He knew what kind of person you would be. And you have never let him down." And it's true. Daniel is a great older brother, a wonderful son, and a fantastic person. It would be nice to see him a little more often when he's not working hard at BYU, in a 3rd world country, or keeping In-N-Out in business. But we treasure our time with him, and are so proud of him and how he's making the world a better place.
HAPPY 24th BIRTHDAY DANIEL ~ WE LOVE YOU!!!!!
Happy Birthday Daniel!!!! And a beautiful tribute as usual Megan. You are so very blessed and so are your sons....
ReplyDeleteHappy, Happy Birthday!!! I hope it's an amazing one. Love all you crazy Walkers.
ReplyDeleteI remember when you brought little Daniel over to Lynnette's. I have some great pictures of you and him. I can't believe he is all grown up!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Megan as always! Happy Birthday to your Daniel!
ReplyDeleteIt's crazy how quickly the time goes. I hate that he is getting older because that means I am getting older too! If it makes you feel any better I had to have Lance show me how to change Elle's diaper in the hospital because I had no clue what I was doing either. Now that I think about it, I still have no clue what I am doing! I will gladly take parenting advice from you any day because you have raised three amazing boys that I love!!
ReplyDeleteMan, he's cute. Is he single?
ReplyDeletei can't believe you gave birth to him either after all that complaining about your nose ;). i'm just kidding. happy birthday, daniel!
ReplyDeleteThanks bunches for all the sweet words and love everyone - it means a great deal to me, and I adore you for taking the time to read and comment :)
ReplyDeleteAnd 'Anonymous'... he IS cute and he IS single. But unfortunately, he has a strange habit of shamelessly promoting himself on peoples' blogs :/
Daniel, I loved working/playing in Ethiopia with you. We had so much fun. Hard work but fun. I am sure you will be able to do the same in Uganda. UMMMM I am wondering if you will be able to bake solar cakes as good as the ones in Ethiopia. Challenge is on.... love you boy. Pedi?????
